Maiden Hong Kong in Williamsburg offers vintage clothing, jewelry, books, and accessories. Take the L to Lorimer (or the G to Metropolitan). Exit at the Lorimer St South exit. Walk towards Devoe St. and the boutique is on the corner of Lorimer and Powers (across the street from the Beehive hair salon and Gimme Coffee). Artists, friends, musicians, good people: Mata Mata makes themed/concept EPs that are incredible! A Wustl Workshop is a collaborative arts/community space at Washington University founded by Maya Escobar and Carianne Noga. Kelda Martensen cares about all the issues I care about (education, environment, social justice, etc)! And she makes beautiful prints and incredibly moving books. Maya Escobar confronts all kinds of stereotypes and underneath it all she's a computer geek. Shannon Randol takes gorgeous photos. Penelope makes beautiful music in a big old church. Stop by the Skinny Pancake in Burlington Vermont for delicious crepes made by Mike Rimoin, Jon Warnow, Benjy Adler and friends. Anais Mitchell - lovely folk singer from Vermont Chris Sorensen claims the big sky as his home just like me and takes sweet photos - including the one on my homepage Matt Hanlon also took some photos of me that appear here. Eryn Grill is a multitalented photographer/painter/nurse/snow goddess. She spent some quality time in Tasmania with me... Bobby Rosenstock is one of the most talented artists and sweetest people I know. Good Shmeats - Leah Koenig's food reviews make me love NYC and embrace my veggetarianism even more Sam Northway makes exquisite jewelry (just one of many many talents). Ryan Alfred continually shocks me with his ridiculous range of musical ability and interest. Brendan Lynaugh once tried to clean up Newark's water (while I was working on Camden's), but now teaches tennis to the bourgeouis Jersey youth and manages to save time for writing eloquent prose. Anjelika Paranjpe manages to travel the world as an artist! I'm impressed (and a bit jealous). Louisa Conrad is a photographer, painter, sculptor, creator...she makes installations that I want to live in. 3R Fashion Girl - putting the sustainability in fashion (or vice versa?) Miriam Audio makes music in the Philly area. Heather Phillips went to high school with me and now designs out west. Comma & Cotton - funky clothes designed by a friend of a friend in SF
Organizations/companies that do nice, fun, beautiful, or humanitarian things: Climate Change Education .org - a portal website providing all kinds of info about all aspects of climate change. They also do hands-on science education in schools. I'm the arts editor for this great organization! The Saatchi Gallery - promoting artists from all over the world Nomad NYC - connecting artists, writers, and publishers...founded by yet another former Tasmanian art school student Altar Magazine - yeah girls! Found Magazine - hilarious Threadless - make your own t-shirt designs and have them sold to random strangers ABCD is the best school in Brooklyn...but I'm biased. I used to coordinate partnerships (don't ask what that means) at The Academy of Business & Community Development. Those kids are destined for greatness - they have an amazing principal and several stellar teachers. One Brick - volunteer opportunities NY Cares - volunteer opportunities Idealist - volunteer, jobs, internships, forums, etc - everything non-profit on one site! Publicolor - teaches kids to paint their schools...this is an awesome program and you can volunteer to help paint! Recycle This! - info on recycling in NYC CITI Mapping Program - free GIS (maps + data) resource for NYC!
